THE Military Freemen of the 75 Engineers are set to parade through the streets of Warrington this Saturday, June 29.
The Freedom of Warrington was awarded to the regiment in 2013 and takes place about every five years, the last time being in 2018.
The event will start at the town hall with the Commanding Officer asking permission from the Mayor for the regiment to exercise their right as Freemen of the Borough to march through the streets.
The borough council has given notice on the occasion of the above mentioned event, no cart, carriage, motor car, lorry or any other vehicle (excepting vehicles taking part in the event, Police, Ambulance, Fire Service vehicles and Mail Carts) and no horses or other animal will be allowed to remain in or travel along or over any of the under mentioned streets between the hours of 10.30am and 12.30pm on Saturday 29th June 2024.
The streets listed below will only be closed to traffic between the above hours to allow for the safe passage of the parade.
Entire lengths of road:
Sankey Street; Springfield Street; Palmyra Square South; Suez Street; Rylands Street; Market Gate.
Part lengths of road:
Winmarleigh Street Between Museum Street and Sankey Street
Legh Street Between Bath Street and Sankey Street
Bicycles and Tricycles are included in the term “vehicle” and must not be ridden through any of the above-named streets during the hours specified. Any person wilfully acting in contravention of the above Order will be liable to a penalty not exceeding £400.
