WARRINGTON & Vale Royal College has today regrettably confirmed a total of 17 redundancies due to various financial pressures.
It follows consultation meetings with unions and staff.
College Chief Executive and principal Nichola Newton said: “Like many others in the Further Education sector, the college’s financial operating position has been impacted adversely by a number of economic variables.
“We continue to take the necessary steps to control non-pay and pay costs, as we have throughout the year, and we are currently, and regrettably reducing staffing by around 3%, affecting 17 individuals. We have not taken this decision lightly, nor do we underestimate the impact of our proposals on those individuals included within them. However, the preservation of the college’s long-term financial sustainability, maintenance of our respected and trusted position in the communities we serve and our continued ability to provide excellent education and skills training are of paramount importance.”
It is understood the job losses involve a range of roles from across the college. Union officials have issued a plea for the jobs to be re-instated while other courses of action were investigated.
