A travel agent from Stockton Heath has raised over £600 for a Warrington hospice, taking part in the Peak District Ultra Challenge.
Branch manager of Hays Travel in Stockton Heath, Lisa Booth, completed the Peak District Ultra Challenge event on 28 June, raising over £626 for St Rocco’s Hospice in the process.
Over 3,000 adventurers took part in the event which involved choosing to walk, jog or run a 25km, 50km, or 100km loop around the southern Peak District.
Lisa completed the 25km challenge to raise money for St Rocco’s Hospice in Warrington, who provide specialist palliative care for people in the area with life limiting illnesses.
Lisa said: “On Saturday I completed the Peak District Ultra Challenge event where you can walk, jog or run 25km. I chose to complete it with a mixture of running and walking. It was a brilliant event with over 3,000 people attending, taking part in various challenges. It was hot, but the weather made it a great day out too. I managed to raise £510 for St Rocco’s Hospice, which made the whole thing worthwhile.”
Liam Durkan, corporate partnerships manager at St Rocco’s Hospice, said: “This funding means we can continue to provide care and support needed by those with life-limiting illnesses and it means the world to our patients and their families.”
Each Hays Travel branch is provided with a £500 budget to use for fundraising and charity work in their local area; £200 of this is to be used to fundraise for charities which support young people’s mental health, and the other £300 can be used for charities chosen by the branch.
In the last year, Hays Travel’s Local Community Partnership initiative across its retail network has donated over £177,000 to local charities.
