WARRINGTON leisure and lifestyle service LiveWire has won a £302,184 grant from the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund to install a state-of-the-art third generation artificial grass pitch as part of the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub development.
The new pitch will be part of the £16 million project to transform the existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre into an integrated facility which provides a one-stop-shop for leisure, health, wellbeing and culture.
Residents in the area are set to benefit from a new fitness suite, upgraded swimming pools, tennis courts, GP surgeries, a smart library, cafe and health and wellbeing facilities including a spa as part of the dementia friendly development.
The funding will allow the existing sand-based pitch to be revamped into a new 106m x 70m floodlit pitch which will provide better facilities for local and regional football clubs when it opens in the autumn.
LiveWire will work in partnership with Liverpool County FA and three local charter standard football clubs to support the development and increase participation of football locally.
Crosfields FC, Matthiola FC and Whittle Hall FC will use the new artificial grass pitch extensively for both training and competitive match play.
The Great Sankey pitch is one of just 17 projects in the North West to benefit from more than £1.7 million worth of funding from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund to support grassroots facility projects.
Keith Maddock, neighbourhood wellbeing director at LiveWire, said: “LiveWire is proud to have been selected as one of the organisations to benefit from this funding. By installing a state-of-the-art 3G pitch which is high quality and accessible for everyone, we’ll be able to provide more opportunities and better facilities to develop footballing
talent.”
