MP hits out over child benefit

LIB Dem councillors in Warrington should make it clear where they stand on cutting Child Benefit, according to MP Helen Jones.
The Warrington North MP says that following the announcement by chancellor George Osborne that Child Benefit is to be scrapped as a universal benefit, local Lib Dems should make up their minds if they support this decision or not.
She said: “Only two weeks ago, Lib Dems at their conference in Liverpool voted to safeguard Child Benefit from any cuts and to make sure it is kept as a universal benefit.
“Now that their Coalition pals have announced they will end the benefit for some, have the Lib Dems changed their mind?”
Ms Jones said she was worried about other vital support that families in Warrington rely on.
“This announcement is saying to people who want to get on and further their career, that if you do, the state will punish you to the tune of £2,500; that sends out completely the wrong message to couples looking to start a family. A family with three children with one parent earning around £40,000 a year will also see their family budget cut by £2,500.
“Many families on lower incomes are already feeling the squeeze after the regressive budget in June froze Child Benefit making it worth less each year.”

  1. Ms Jones should keep quiet about such matters.

Shouting at other parties because of the mess her party created won’t make the situation any better.

How can you lose something that you haven’t got? Do people have children to increase their earnings?

Ms Jones, please engage brain before operating mouth.

  2. I completely agree and I am getting rather fed up of hearing and seeing her comments in the press when all she ever does it attack her opposition even though I am not a supporter of any party. I’d much rather hear and read about Ms Jones doing something proactive for a change. ALSO How much does Ms Jones get paid if she classes those earning over £40,000 as being LOW earners ?? I notice she has also calculated the loss as a yearly total based on 3 children. The higher rate child benefit payment for the first child in a family is actually £20.30 a week (which incidentally is the approximate cost equivalent of 4 packets of cigarettes or 4 bottles of wine…….) Do people earning over 40k really need this extra £20 a week when you consider the amoung of money that the government could save by stopping it ???

  3. Why does anyone read what she spouts, she is just an opposition irritant and uses this medium to remind people that she is still around. Every time I see her face I ignore the text.
