A multi-vehicle collision on the M6 at Winwick, Warrington, resulted in lengthy delays as two of three lanes were closed.
Police and emergency services attended at the scene as contractors assisted in clearing debris.
At one point delays of 45 minutes were being reported by national Highways. Lanes two of three northbound, between Winwick and Haydock were closed.
All lanes have now re-opened although another incident has been reported further south, resulting in one lane closure.
