The where, what, and why of road markings

0

Road and other line markings are not something that always gets your attention, but without them, the world would be a bit of a different place.

From playgrounds to parking lots, road markings are what keep life on the streets orderly and organised while giving you the clear and direct instructions that you need to ensure that you are in the right place.

Specially demarcated areas are, more often than not, highlighted through the use of road marking contractors, and this spans the range of playgrounds, parking lots, electric vehicle charging areas, petrol stations, hospitals, disabled parking bays, numbered parking bays, and even outside of the doctor’s office.

In this blog, we are going to take a look at some of the most used road markings and parking areas, what they are marked with, and why road marking is so beneficial. So let’s get started…

Most marked Areas

There is no standalone winner in this department, as road markings are used almost everywhere and certainly on every road surface you have ever come across. Aside from the roads, parking lots, and designated parking bays, road markings can be found in almost all places that have received an asphalt or concrete surface covering.

Children’s playgrounds, warehouse flooring, loading and unloading truck docking stations, bicycle lanes, and even sports courts. Road markings are what keep the order and allow us to play within the legal lines (so to speak).

Thermoplastic Markings

Thermoplastic road marking paint is a special powder that is heated to the point of melting, which is then sprayed onto the road surface. Once it has cooled, this paint forms a thick and highly durable polymer coat, which is also reflective and bright.

For additional skid resistance and reflectivity, glass beads can be added, creating an even more attractive and hardy road marking surface.

The long life and low maintenance costs of thermoplastic paints for road markings make this the ideal candidate for any and all road marking needs. And the extra shine from the glass beads makes this a welcome addition to any playground. Adding that little extra glitter for the kids.

Benefits of Road Markings

Road markings have a clear and defined purpose, and in this lies their greatest benefit. Road markings are there for the purposes of guiding and controlling traffic and serve as a psychological barrier regarding deviation from the rules and norms of road usage.

They are also highly effective as a public servant, channeling cyclists and pedestrians into appropriate areas along the roadside with the aim of preventing unwanted and unnecessary accidents and injuries.

Furthermore, they are great for the demarcation of special parking areas and are the lines that dictate the rules of the court and playground, particularly when there is a ball involved in the game.

Road markings, as the name suggests, are an important part of keeping the law and order of society in tact. Without them, could you imagine what your daily drive to work would look like?
