Library garden gets a year of tender loving care

0

A YEAR ago, members of the Friends of Culcheth Library decided the library garden looked a mess.
It needed some tender loving care – and that is just what it got.
Members of the group weeding and dug the area over, adding several large bags of compost
prior to planting some evergreen shrubs and three large bags of spring bulbs.
In the spring the garden looked brilliant.
Early summer saw another group of members planting some annuals to give summer colour.
But the weeds took over  and the garden again looked very untidy.
At the end of August two Friends of Culcheth Library members spent a full morning digging over and weeding the front garden of the library. It was hard work but the end product looked good …. until the weeds came back again.
It was evident bark chippings were needed to suppress future weeds.
Then Warrington Borough Council’s  parks department stepped in with an offer to provide chipping – and spread them.
The Friends are now looking forward to planting more bulbs in the New Year.
Anyone who would like to help the library friends with further gardening can go along for a chat – or look at the Culcheth Library website https://friendsofculchethlibrary.org for contact details.
