AN angry councillor has hit out after trying for a fortnight to get dumped waste removed from an alleyway at Longford, Warrington.
Cllr Mike Hannon says the rubbish has become a health issue after being left for two weeks in the alleyway between Northway and Densham Avenue.
He said: “Vermin has been reported by nearby residents – and waste like this left in the open will attract vermin. I am very annoyed about this.
“I reported this a fortnight ago and was told it would be cleared. But it is still there – in fact it has got worse because even more rubbish has been dumped.”
A wheeled bin used by local shops is overflowing but a growing number of bin sacks have been dumped next to it – along with a supermarket trolley.
Cllr Hannon said: “There is no need for people to dump waste like this – there is a correct way for getting rid of rubbish without littering the streets with it. But when it happens, the council should remove it as a matter of urgency.
“I was told on Tuesday last week that it would be removed but it still hasn’t gone today. Local residents are angry and I don’t blame them.”
A spokesperson for the borough council’s transport and environment department confirmed that street services would remove the fly-tipped waste while enforcement officers would contact the firm providing collections at the site.

  1. disgusting yes. i reported half a dozen abandoned wheely bins that were over full and received a reply that it could take up to twelve weeks for them to be removed. in fact it took eight weeks as they were removed last week. So a fortnight of complaining by a councillor might get it shifted a bit quicker.

also how often are shop bins emptied i must have a look later on.
