UPDATE: All three carriageways on the M62 have now re-opened, but there is still heavy congestion in the area.

BREAKING NEWS: SERIOUS traffic delays are being experienced on the M62  near Gemini, Warrington, following an accident involving a lorry which appears to have spilled its load.

The skip lorry has tipped on its side blocking three of four lanes of the carriageway between junctions 9 Winwick Road, and 8 Burtonwood, heading from Warrington to Liverpool.

Eyewitness reports say the lorry appears to have had a spillage with liquid covering the carriageway.

The crash has had a major impact on Winwick Road heading out of Warrington, with reports of traffic being at a standstill.

One motorist said: “Warrington has become a car park again!”

  1. I hope the driver is ok.
As for Warrington becoming a car park again well that happens every single time there’s an accident on the near by motorways. I’ve idea what had happened last night but at 6.30pm traffic heading towards town was backed up as far as the eye could see up Chester Road (Walton Drag). Stockton heath village was a nightmare and even Ellesmere Road had a long line of stationery traffic going no-where. It’s ridiculous and the town road planners need to get their brains into gear and come up with a long solution to sort Warrington’s gridlocked roads out !
Their proposed silly new one way bridge over the Mersey from near the Gainsborough Road junction on Chester Road over to Slutchers Lane area (leading to all the proposed new housing too) certainly wont be enough sort it and may even make things worse round there. Moaning over for now…..
