Rebel councillor comes in for criticism

REBEL councillor Frank Pennington was blasted at the monthly meeting of Frodsham Town Council for attempting to bring the council into disrepute with the use of false and misleading information.
The veteran of 40 years council service – who was removed from all council committees last year for comparing the council to Hitler – sat in silence as he was attacked  by fellow councillors over a statement he had made to Frodsham Life last month.
Cllr Andrew Dawson said Cllr Pennington was entitled to his opinion but was not entitled to give false and misleading figures.
He had claimed that the council was spending £60,000 a year on staff wages when the correct figure was £52,000. He had claimed this was 50 per cent of the precept when it was not.
His statement had suggested the council was not doing its job properly, which was not true.
“This council can be very proud of what it has achieved from the situation we inherited. The previous council left us in deficit – we have come a long way from that.”
Cllr Pammi Taylor said Cllr Pennington had cast a slur on council staff by stating that the office was open only 20 hours a week but the staff were paid for 81 hours.
“It is not just their job to keep the doors open to the public. They have a lot more things to do.”
Cllr Pennington did not respond to any of the criticisms.
