“Fearless fundraisers” needed to raise £5,000 for Warrington Disability Partnership

AN appeal has been launched for “fearless fundraisers” ready to turn up the heat and help raise £5,000 for Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP).

Same-day courier company Today Team is hosting a daring Charity Firewalk at Walton Hall and Gardens on Saturday, July 12 – and with just a few spots left, it’s the final call for brave volunteers.
Managing director Jamie Boyd said the goal is to back a charity that “makes a real difference” for disabled people and those with long-term conditions in Warrington.
“As a long-time board member of the Disability Trading Company, I am proud to be involved with such a great charity and organisation – led by Dave Thompson. This will be the third firewalk we have held for them, and if it’s anything like the last two, it’s going to be an incredible event… I can’t wait!”
Scott Bell, two-time Guinness World Record holder for the ‘Greatest Fire Walking Distance’, will lend his expertise to the event – explaining the history of firewalking and the technique behind it. Participants will then brave a distance of 15-20ft, walking to the beat of a drum on coals at 550°C.
All monies raised from the scorching stunt will go to WDP – a user-led charity which aims to relieve the needs of disabled people, their families and carers in England and Wales, through actively promoting independent living.

To support this mission, WDP offers a wide range of services – including information on peer counselling, equipment, personal assistance, transport, access, employment, education and training.
“Our whole team at WDP are grateful for the ongoing support we receive from Jamie and his staff at Today Team, which stems back a decade,” said Dave Thompson chief executive and co-founder at WDP.
“Due to huge funding cuts in contracts from statutory service partners, income from fundraising activities like the firewalk are needed more than ever before. All donations will be appreciated and will go towards maintaining our unfunded services – including lunch clubs, accessible narrowboat and support groups for people living with long-term health conditions such as chronic pain and Long Covid. Just as importantly, it will be a fun and exciting event.”
The event begins with a briefing at 3pm and the Firewalk will start at 4pm. Tea and coffee will be available for participants and guests.
“Every step taken and every pound given will go towards supporting someone else’s independence,” added Jamie, who is a former Warrington Wolves player.
“As a business, we have proudly supported WDP fundraising efforts in the past through corporate event sponsorships and activities such as sponsored skydives. “Now, in our 20th anniversary year, we are aiming to raise £5,000 – with a £50 fundraising target for each of our 100 firewalk participants.
‘If you haven’t done a firewalk before, it’s a brilliant experience. I would encourage you to give it a go! All support on the day – and donations to WDP – will be very much appreciated.”
