A young mum who was given a year to live after being diagnosed with an inoperable stage four brain tumour is celebrating news that radiotherapy has worked.

Two-and-a-half years on from diagnosis, brain, surgery, radiotherapy twice and three different chemotherapy drugs, Laura has been told her brain tumour has stabilised again.

Laura Mahon, formerly from Great Sankey, Warrington, but now living in Lea Green near St Helens is living with an inoperable brain tumour after becoming unwell when she was 20 weeks pregnant.

Laura said: “It’s taken Brain Surgery, Radiotherapy twice in less than 2 years, 3 different chemotherapy drugs over 19 months but my brain tumour has stabilised again!

“This doesn’t mean I’m cancer-free or treatment free, I’ll always have this brain tumour in my head, how long it stays stable is another worry for another day.
“I was diagnosed with glioblastoma 30 months ago, I was told I’d have maybe a year to live slightly more if I was lucky but you know I’m still here to tell the tale.

“Me, Danny and our family wasn’t given much hope when I was diagnosed but that’s the one thing we’ve never done is give up hope.I couldn’t have done any of this without them. They’ve been there every step of the way, always cheering me on. I couldn’t ask for a better team behind me.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my family for the past 2 and a half years. You are all incredible and I couldn’t have done it without you all.”

Laura added: “You never know what’s around the corner or how quickly your life can change in the blink of an eye, just get out there and live every day like it’s your last and tell people how much you love them.”

Last year Laura was given the honour of opening a new imaging academy at Edge Hill University. She is also raising money for brain tumour research.
