Mark Forster becomes the “grandaddy” of Rugby League

WARRINGTON Wolves’ legend Mark Forster is certainly the “grandaddy” of Rugby League after signing on for the new season with Woolston Rovers on the same day as his six-year-old grandson Taylor.

He believes it is the first time a grandad and grandson have signed on for a complete season adding to his impressive Rugby League pedigree which included 458 appearances for Warrington’s first team, more than any man currently alive.

“Foz” who scored 191 tries for the Wolves during a 20 year career, which included becoming the only player to have two testimonials at one club, has already played alongside his two sons Christopher, 28 and Dan, 27, in 12 major amateur finals and is now looking forward to Taylor taking up the sport.

“As long as the club continues to go on tours to Malta, Prague and Dubai I will continue to play – but I don’t think I will still be around playing to make an amateur final with Taylor,” said 51-year-old Mark.

Taylor’s dad Christopher, who is now at Bank Quay Bulls is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury but Uncle Dan is signed on with Woolston, alongside his dad Mark for the open age team.

When asked whether Taylor would be following in his father’s footsteps at the Wolves Mark added: “He certainly has pace and can tackle well!”

But one thing is certain, Mark hopes his grandaughter Maisey doesn’t take up the sport!

Meanwhile sales of Mark’s book “Wire til I die” are going well as he lifts the lid on his 20 year career at the Wolves playing alongside legends including Les Boyd, Mike Gregory, Paul Cullen and Kevin Tamati.
