Winter Wonderland at The Woodlands

VIDEO: PUB landlady Alison Walton has transformed her The Woodlands at Great Sankey, Warrington, into a winter wonderland complete with a Santa’s grotto.

The Woodlands pub on Liverpool Road in Warrington is decorated with thousands of baubles, handmade garlands and lights.
The decorations are a dazzling array of red, gold, silver, blue and green.
The bar area is packed with garlands, a multitude of baubles and lights.

The pub was packed with diners enjoying festive lunches beneath the opulent decorations.
Alison, who has been landlady for 22 years, told Warrington Worldwide it takes “four solid nights from 10pm to 8am and the following morning” to get the decorations up.
“It started small when I first took over the pub and it has just grown and grown from there,” she said. “I think I am just making up for not having anywhere to put a Christmas tree each year with all these decorations.
“The hardest part is there are a lot of garlands around the pub which are all handmade. They literally contain thousands of baubles.
“It’s quite a big task putting them all away.”
Alison said people travel from “all over to see the decorations.”
“We get a lot of people just coming to see them and we even have people from Wales visiting. My favourite part this year is the raised area near the front door.”
Here, large chandelier type lights are festooned with garlands and baubles. There are Santa’s elves dotted among the decorations.
