A CHESHIRE Police drive to further clamp down on crime in Warrington town centre got off to a good start.
Police have joined forces with the Golden Square shopping centre in the latest of a series of anti-crime initiatives which have already reduced crime levels.
Officers from the town centre Neighbourhood Policing Unit hosted a special crime reduction event in the centre on Wednesday and will be holding a second event at the Old Market Place on Monday, August 13 between 10am and 3pm.
Sergeant Rob Horton, of the NPU, said: “We are committed to working alongside Golden Square on positive schemes such as this to help reduce crime levels even further by reducing opportunities for repeat offences and helping to support local businesses and residents.”
Officers are on hand to give shoppers valuable crime reduction and security advice and will also carry out free bike marking.
A major part of the new initiative is the launch of an exclusion zone, under which known offenders can be barred from entering the town centre.

Good news, but I never understand statements that to me, imply that they are not doing their best in the first place.
Here’s a thought, in order to reduce crime why don’t the police spend their time CATCHING CRIMINALS!! That’s what we pay them to do, not swan around the Golden Square stamping postcodes on the odd bike.
