Science taster for pupils

WARRINGTON schoolchildren will have the chance to visit a “Lab in a Lorry” in a bid to get them interested in science.
The mobile science lab will be based at William Beamont Community High School today (Tuesday) and tomorrow. Youngsters will be invited to visit in small groups.
Designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, Lab in a Lorry offers 11 to 14 year olds the opportunity to explore science through specially created interactive experiments.
The programme features two 44-feet lorries that have been visiting schools and communities throughout the country since 2005.
Each is fitted with three distinct lab areas where groups of up to six can take part in fun experiments assisted by practicing scientists and engineers who volunteer their time.
Tony Buckley, of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Daresbury Laboratory, said: “Connecting people to science in an interesting way is vital for inspiring them to take up STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, to help provide the next generation of scientists.
“Lab in a lorry does exactly that, which is why STFC is pleased to be involved with such an innovative project”.
