A daughter’s inspiring fundraiser in memory of her mum

On February 27, the anniversary of her Mum’s death, 29-year-old Megan Nadin and her partner Jamie Dimery will be walking 19 miles from their home in Warrington to The Christie hospital in Manchester to raise funds for The Christie Charity.

Megan’s mum Carol Nadin had been diagnosed with womb cancer in October 2022 and underwent surgery to remove it which was successful. Unfortunately, while recovering at home, complications arose, and she was readmitted to hospital in December for further tests. These tests revealed the diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, an aggressive type of cancer affecting the white blood cells in the body, this meant she had to stay in hospital for the entirety of the treatment which was 3 months.
Over the following months, she faced multiple rounds of chemotherapy with incredible strength and positivity, determined to fight for remission. Her optimism was infectious, and the ward staff often commented on the sheer number of visitors she welcomed – a testament to how loved she was.
One special moment which the family always cherish was when Carol was allowed to leave the hospital for an afternoon during a break from treatment, to reunite with Megan and sister Bethan, their dad Ian, Jamie, and Poppy the dog. That day is a memory they all hold close to their hearts which was filled with tea, biscuits and laughter!

Megan and family

Sadly, on February 23 the family received the devastating news that Carol’s treatment had not been successful and just four days later she died peacefully, surrounded by her family.
“The Christie provides incredible care and is at the forefront of cancer treatment and research. We are so grateful for everything the staff did for our mum,” said Megan. “We hope to raise money to support the life-changing work they do and celebrate our lovely mum.”
Lea Abell, mass participations officer at The Christie Charity, said, “We’re deeply moved by Megan’s tribute to her mum. The funds that Megan and Jamie raise will make a real difference in helping us to support the work of the hospital in providing exceptional care and pioneering cancer research. We’re incredibly grateful for their dedication and courage.”
