Bus lane “trespass” could lead to penalty charge

DRIVERS who “trespass” in two of Warrington’s bus lanes could receive penalty charge notices in the post.
Enforcement cameras are to be introduced on the bus lanes in Knutsford Road and Lower Bridge Street.
The aim, the borough council says, is to ensure that only buses, taxis, cycles and emergency service vehicles use the bus lanes.
The Knutsford Road camera will go live at the beginning of July,  operating between 7.30am and 9.30am  and the lower Bridge Street enforcement will start from August.
Automatic number plate recognition cameras will capture the registration plate details of all vehicles driving illegally along the bus lanes and the owners of these vehicles could receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
Cllr Hans Mundry,  the council’s lead member for transport and highways, said: “The aim of these schemes is to help provide a more reliable bus service and increase passenger numbers by enabling buses to have a more reliable journey along some of the most congested roads as well as stopping other vehicle drivers abusing the bus lanes.
“Hopefully this will go some way in attracting people out of their cars, thus reducing congestion and at the same time improving air quality.” The council  says the new schemes follow on from the success of its first bus lane enforcement scheme at Birchwood.

  1. The bus lane on Knutsford Road helps nobody. All it does is cause a long single file queue of cars in the morning, whilst a free lane remains empty.

  2. Warrington borough council , bus lane location between unnamed link between ordnance ave and birchwood way ,if you step at this lane you can get two penalty charges only for one minute -one soutboun and other northbount . There is some wrong if step on the lane southbound impossible to escape out of road and should be continue but northbound camera is next one so one way two charges .Is it fair !!!!
