MUCH loved former Penketh Parish Council Chair Ray McKay passed away suddenly after a short illness and his funeral was well attended on April 19 at St Joseph’s Church Penketh.

Raymond (Ray) Mckay was born on 28 September 1945, the youngest of 6. He got his name from the midwife who delivered him as she had just lost her son ‘Raymond’ in the war. He grew up in the centre of Liverpool and moved out to Warrington in 1967 and resided in Great Sankey for over 40 years.

Ray was a dedicated family man who lived to provide for his wife, daughter, son and granddaughters. He also took the role of head of the wider family making sure his nieces and nephews were taken care of. Ray was a lifelong member of the Labour Party always thinking of others less fortunate than himself.
His career spanned over 50 years working in the shipping industry, firstly at Liverpool Airport and then Manchester Airport. He retired at the age 65 where his passion for politics took over. He was elected on to the Penketh Parish Council in 2018 then shortly afterwards elected and served as Chairman for Penketh Parish Council. He took his role seriously as chairman but also his humorous side came out when he appeared as Father Christmas at Penketh Christmas Fayre.
Ray also brought the set of food parcels to helped out at the beginning of Covid for the Good Neighbours project which is still helping today and ensuring the Youth Club was open and available for food donations. He had a passion for the community and Ray was also devout Evertonian.

Paying tribute Borough Cllr Amanda King said: “Ray’s energy will be missed and his laughter and support of the community projects.
“Thank you for your services.”
