THE world-famous Leyland Band is to perform at Warrington’s Parr Hall this summer to raise money for St Rocco’s Hospice.
Playing a wide range of music from traditional brass band music to big band, jazz, pop, classical and songs from the shows, the band will be in concert on Sunday, June 19.
The band is well known in Warringto for accompanying Warrington Male Voice Choir at their annual Christmas concert.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Leyland Band is one of the most sought after brass ensembles on the concert platform, performing in all parts of the United Kingdom including world famous venues including the Royal Albert Hall.
The band’s international reputation is equally impressive with ground-breaking tours to Japan, Korea and the US, as well as many appearances in Europe. Last July Leyland Band was the first English brass band to appear at the prestigious Innsbruck Promenade Concert Series in Austria, performing to more than 2,000 people.
Band chairman Chris Doran said: “We’ve always had a great turnout and a great reception from the Warrington audience, and I thought it would be a good idea for the band to perform a concert of their own here.
“I’ve lived in Warrington for about nine years, for most of that time just down the road from St Rocco’s. For a number of years I’ve been aware of the great work the hospice does and when my wife and my mum entered this year’s Starlight Ladies Walk for the hospice, I thought that I could do my bit to help this fantastic local charity by putting on a brass band concert to raise money for them”.
