Workers raise £3,147 for childhood cancer charity

A CHARITY that lends support to families affected by childhood cancer has welcomed a donation of £3,147 from workers in Warrington
The Joshua Tree, based in Northwich, has received the money as a result of donations and a sponsored head shave by staff at the Amazon site in Warrington.
A total of £1,000 from donations by staff at the fulfilment centre and £2,147 from the head shave.
The charity offers support to the entire family, helping to ensure that life remains as normal as possible during difficult times. Some of the services offered by the charity include emotional support, on a one-to-one basis or through therapy, practical support and hosting family activities and events and more.
The donation is being used to help sustain the vital support the charity offers to local families affected by childhood cancer as it moves forward into a new support centre.
Amazon Warrington’s site leader Prashant Pandey said: “We were thrilled to provide £1,000 to The Joshua Tree, and even more pleased when our staff came together to raise a further £2,147 for the charity through a sponsored head shave. The Joshua Tree provides such important support for individuals affected by cancer and their family members.
“We have been touched by this issue in a very personal way, as a colleague of ours, Darrell Smith, has been diagnosed with cancer. We’re very proud of the team for rallying together to raise more funds for such a meaningful cause.”
Darrell Smith, from Warrington, has been with the company over a year and half.
Pippa Watson-Peck, fundraising and communications manager at The Joshua Tree, said: “Coping with childhood cancer is devastating for families, and we try to ease that distress in any way we can.”
