McCoy century sets up big win for Grappers

GRAPPENHALL inflected an eight wicket victory on struggling Cheadle Hulme in the Vivio Cheshire County League division one.
Conditions were damp when Cheadle batted first at Broad Lane and they struggled for runs against an accurate Grappers attack.  They reached a modest 157-9in 50 overs, with Sam Guest the pick of the bowlers picking up four wickets.
Grappers lost an early wicket but then set about the business of knocking off the runs with James McCoy hitting a blistering 106 and Peter Barnes offering sound support with 43 not out.  When they reached their target at 158-2 there were still 20 overs to spare.
The win keeps Grappenhall in second place in the table and on course for promotion.
Grappenhall 2nd won by the same margin at Cheadle Hulme after the home side had reached 167-9 in 50 overs, Matt Titchard picking up three wickets.
Willk Sharp hit a fine 70 as Grappers chased down the target for the loss of two wickets to maintain their own promotion challenge
Grappenhall 3rd lost a tight game to promotion-chasing Alderley Edge.
Batting first, Grappers posted a below-par total of 156,  with the main contributions coming from Richard Holden, 36 and Josh Hayes, 48. Unfortunately no-one else got in on a slow wicket.
After the interval, Grappenhall gave a much better account of themselves with tight bowling that restricted the scoring rate.  A few late wickets gave them hope, but in the end Alderley Edge scraped hope with five wickets down and only an over remaining.
Warrington suffered a heavy defeat at Sale where they batted first and were bowled out for 121, Huw Stone 40 and James Lewis 22. Sale raced to 125-2 in 24 overs.
The 2nd XI game at Walton Lea also went Sale’s way, with Warrington reaching a modest 155, James Sharrock 55 and Aaron Soni 37. Sale took the h onours with 159-5, Soni taking 2-44 and Brad Roden 2-26.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park set a formidable target when they posted 231-3 against Ashton-on-Mersey at Oughtrington Lane.
Opener Jonathan Fletcher hit an unbeaten 121, including seven sixes and 11 fours while partner  Matthew Carr hammered 68, with eight fours and three sixes.  But the visitors also batted well and the game ended in a draw with Ashton on 176-6. Syed Khan took 3-33.
Appleton scraped a one-wicket win in a low-scoring game at Wirral, where the  home side were bowled out for 80 and Appleton lost nine wickets in reaching their target.
Warrington 3rd suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Port Sunlight when they were bowled out for 79 chasing a total of 194. Raj Soni was the pick of their bowlers with 2-36 and Vijay Doraisiny top scored with 20.
Warrington 4th went down by five wickets at Chester Boughton Hall. Warrington could only muster 116-7, Les Connolly 22 and Paul Dempster 20. The home side replied with 120-5, Mansoor Naseem 2-35. Nathan Jeffries 2-11.
Stretton were bowled out for 92, Jagdish Ratnagiri 32 when they entertained Wilmslow who went on to win with 95-3.
But Stretton 2nd enjoyed an eight wicket victory at Winnington Park after dismissing the home side for 148, S Ehmed 4-35.  Stretton coasted to 150-2 with Umer Zeb hammering an unbeaten 101.
The “derby” game between Rylands 2nd and Glazebury  2nd ended in a seven wicket win for Glazebury.
Rylands were dismissed for 88, Jordan Carroll taking 5-31. Glazebury replied with 89-3, opener Nirpal Bansel hitting 37.
