FRIENDS and supporters of Lymm Heritage Centre recently gathered with disability champion Dave Thompson for the official opening of a new disabled access.
Heritage Centre Chair, Alan Williams reflected on the near ten years that the Centre has now been open and the difference that the disabled access would make as the Centre moves forward into its second decade. He thanked all of those involved, firstly in championing the cause as well as the design and build team Most of all gratitude went to the Centre’s owner and landlord, Howard Platt whose generous financial support had made the project possible.
Dave Thompson of WDP spoke of his pleasure at being able to visit the Centre for the first time and reminded the assembled group of just how many more people would now be able to take advantage of this exceptional village resource.
Vice Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Susan Sellers spoke of the fantastic volunteer effort that had enabled the Centre to be such a success already but how much more successful it could now be given the new access.
The three of them then gather in the drizzling rain for the formal cutting of the ribbon.
The day was rounded off with invited guests going aboard the new disabled access boat Wizard II John B for a short cruise. Lymm is likely to be a regular stopping place for Wizard II with the Heritage Centre now being an accessible destination during any visit to the village.
The Centre is currently hosting a highly successful temporary exhibition celebrating the life and career of Lymm’s speedway legend , Peter Collins who was crowned world champion exactly 50 years ago, The Centre is open throughout the year from 12-4 Thursday to Sunday.
