A flood alert has been issued for the Mersey Estuary at Warrington, with high tides overnight expected to pose a risk to low-lying land and roads.
The Environment Agency has warned that flooding is possible from 11.30pm on Saturday, October 24, as higher-than-normal tides affect the area.
Areas at risk include Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road, Arpley Bridge, Knutsford Road, Howley, Kingsway North and Westy.
The locations expected to be most affected are:
– Fiddlers Ferry: Flooding is expected to peak at around midnight.
– Eastford Road: Flooding is expected to peak at approximately 12.15am.
– Arpley Bridge: Flooding is expected to peak at around 12.30am.
There is also a possibility that river levels could affect Arpley Road beneath the railway bridge.
The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation and has warned that the next high tide on Sunday afternoon, October 25, is also expected to reach the flood alert threshold.
Higher-than-normal high tides are forecast over the next two days, meaning further flood alerts or flood warnings could be issued.
Residents are being advised to avoid low-lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses while river levels are elevated.
A flood alert means flooding is possible and people should remain vigilant, monitor updates and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.
