Winter vaccines now available to eligible groups

RESIDENTS across Warrington are being encouraged to get vaccinated this winter, with flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines now available for eligible people.

As temperatures begin to drop and seasonal viruses start to circulate more widely, vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to help protect yourself and those around you from serious illness during the winter months.

Those at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell from respiratory infections are being urged to take up the offer of vaccination as soon as possible. This includes children, older adults, people with certain long-term health conditions, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.
Winter viruses such as flu, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can lead to serious health complications. Getting vaccinated helps reduce the risk of severe illness and can also help prevent the spread of infections to more vulnerable members of the community.
Eligible residents can receive their vaccines through GP practices, participating community pharmacies and other local vaccination services.

The NHS recommends:

• The flu vaccine for people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, carers, frontline health and social care workers, people with certain long-term health conditions, and most children.

• The COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 75 and over (including those who will turn 75 by 31 January 2027), people aged six months to 74 years with a weakened immune system due to a health condition or treatment, and residents living in older adult care homes.

• The RSV vaccine for pregnant women from 28 weeks of pregnancy and adults aged 75 years and over. Adults aged 65 to 74 may also be eligible if they have a weakened immune system or certain long-term lung conditions. Residents living in care homes for older adults are also eligible, regardless of age.

Residents are encouraged to check their eligibility and book their vaccinations as soon as they are invited.
Cllr Tony Higgins, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, said: “Winter can bring significant health challenges, particularly for older people, young children and those living with long-term health conditions. Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you from serious illness.
“If you’re eligible, I would encourage you to take up the offer of your winter vaccines as soon as possible. By getting vaccinated, you can help protect yourself, your loved ones, and support our local health and care services during what is often the busiest time of year.”
