Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School welcomed back former student Joel Williams to receive the inaugural Temi Abimbola Player of the Match Award following the school’s annual Staff v Students Football Match, held in July.

Evey year, the Sir Thomas Boteler school community comes together and holds this match, to celebrate the legacy of former student Temi and the game he loved so much. Devastatingly, Temi drowned in Appleton Reservoir in June 2009 when swimming with friends on a hot day.

This special award has been created in his memory, and recognition of Temi Abimbola’s valued contribution to football in the school community.

Headteacher Mrs Scott-Herron said: “The recipient of the award was selected by Mrs Abimbola herself, and Joel was a unanimous choice following an outstanding performance that epitomised determination, skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the game. His display on the pitch was truly exceptional. It was wonderful to see Joel return to our Boteler Family to receive this recognition, and we look forward to continuing this new tradition in the years ahead as we celebrate the values, talent and spirit that make our school community so special.”
