MOTORISTS travelling through the Winwick area of Warrington are being urged to plan ahead and consider alternative routes as major United Utilities works are set to cause significant disruption for up to ten days.
Myddleton Lane in Winwick will be closed from this Friday, 23 October, until potentially Sunday 1 November, with United Utilities carrying out major works outside Winwick CE Primary School.
Waterworks Lane in the village is already closed for the same works and will remain closed during the Myddleton lane works.
The simultaneous closures are expected to cause considerable disruption to traffic travelling between Croft, Culcheth, Winwick and Warrington, particularly during peak commuting periods.
Burtonwood and Winwick Independent Councillor Stuart Mann is encouraging motorists travelling to and from Warrington from Croft, Culcheth, Glazebury and surrounding areas to consider alternative routes and avoid travelling through Winwick wherever possible.
With two roads closed at the same time, there are concerns that surrounding routes could experience additional congestion as motorists attempt to find alternative ways through the area.
Temporary Number 19 Bus Arrangements
Following discussions with Warrington Borough Council’s transport team, United Utilities has agreed to fund a temporary shuttle bus service to maintain public transport connections between Winwick, Croft and Culcheth.
The shuttle, operated by Warrington’s Own Buses, will serve three locations:
• Winwick Post Office
• Croft Horseshoe
• Culcheth Library
The normal number 19 service will be diverted via Long Lane and Hilden Road, travelling through Birchwood towards Culcheth, where passengers can connect with the shuttle.
Passengers travelling towards Leigh will be able to connect with the number 19 at Culcheth Library.
Those travelling into Warrington from Winwick are being advised to use the 322, 329 or 360 services from the St Oswald’s bus stop.
Passengers from Croft and the earlier stops in Culcheth should use the shuttle to Culcheth Library before connecting with services towards Warrington.
Cllr Mann, who has been seeking clarification on the arrangements ahead of the closures, said: “With both Myddleton Lane and Waterworks Lane closed at the same time, this is going to cause considerable disruption, not just for Winwick residents but for people travelling from Croft, Culcheth and surrounding villages. I would strongly encourage motorists to consider alternative routes into Warrington and avoid Winwick wherever possible during the works.
Timetables and Further Information
Temporary shuttle timetables covering weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays have been prepared, with notices being displayed at affected bus stops.
The information will also be available through Warrington’s Own Buses website and app.
Residents are encouraged to allow additional time for journeys, consider alternative routes and check bus arrangements before travelling.
