Road and footpath closures to allow safe demolition of Cockhedge Centre

2

ROAD and footpath closures are set to come into force next week (Feb 7) to allow the ongoing safe demolition of part of the Cockhedge Centre site in Warrington town centre.

Warrington Borough Council has made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving and footway closure on Cockhedge Way from its junction with Scotland Road to its junction with Orford Street.

The Order will be effective from 7th February 2024 for 4 weeks, as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route will be via Scotland Road and Buttermarket Street. The restrictions are required to allow for the safe demolition of the Cockhedge Centre.

Planning permission has previously been granted to breathe new life into the site with part demolition, opening up space for up to 900 new homes.
