POLICE have issued a warning over cold callers operating in the Great Sankey area of Warrington, including bogus reports of burglaries.
Issuing the warning on social media, Warrington Police posted; “On Wednesday 25th June, we received a report of a male attending a property on Helmsdale Lane, Great Sankey, claiming he could smell gas and needed to check the address. Thankfully, the occupant thought the caller was suspicious and denied him entry to the address.
“Today we were also made aware of cold callers attending addresses on Rozel Crescent last week claiming there had been burglaries in the area and they had been installing CCTV at a house ‘round the corner’ and were offering to install equipment at the resident’s address.
“We can confirm there have been no reports of burglaries in the area and anyone working in the area is not in response to any police incidents.
“Uninvited callers may not be who they claim to be, if you are visited by a cold caller it is best not to engage with them or provide any personal details. If you are unhappy please call us on 101.”
Reports can also be made online.
