Students at Lymm High School celebrate "best ever" A Level results

AFTER a long, nervous wait over the summer, Year 13 students at Lymm High School were able to celebrate the best set of post-16 A Level results the school has ever had.

The school also believes the highest number of students ever have achieved their preferred university choices including high numbers heading off to prestigious institutions including Oxford and Cambridge.

Head of Lymm High School Sixth Form Mrs Hayley Jennings said: “I’m absolutely over the moon for the students. This is the cohort who didn’t sit GCSE exams because of Covid, which means they missed out on the benefit of the experience of sitting public exams – so the whole process has been even more nerve-wracking than normal. I am so proud of the way they have handled everything and just delighted to see them doing so well.”

Despite fears in the press about pressure on university places, nearly all Lymm High Sixth Form students have already secured places at their preferred universities – in fact, at the time of writing, the school thinks these numbers are higher than ever. This includes very high numbers heading off to the most prestigious institutions, including Oxbridge, and onto the most competitive courses, such as medicine.

Headteacher Gwyn Williams said:“I’m simply delighted for the students. They have not had an easy time of it, and so to come through and post results like these reflects incredibly well on them; they really do deserve all their success. I’m also delighted for their teachers, who have worked incredibly hard to navigate all the changes and uncertainty surrounding exams over the last few years.
“The impact of Covid on national results over the past three years means that we need to be a little careful making direct comparisons but, taking into account that we have returned to pre-Covid patterns across England, A’ level results today are the best that Lymm High School has ever had. Given that outcomes in the Sixth Form have been consistently excellent for some years now, this really is quite an achievement, and everyone involved deserves huge congratulations. It is genuinely humbling to be able to work with such fantastic staff and students, and I am a very proud Headteacher this morning.”

There are so many individual students who have performed brilliantly (including some who have had to overcome some very significant personal challenges) and it’s impossible to acknowledge every single success here. Traditionally though, we always mention the highest attaining students and so congratulations especially go to Ben Bower and Isabelle Rogers who scored straight A* grades in their A’ levels (four for Ben and three for Isabelle) – an incredible achievement given how challenging current A’ level specifications are.
Particular congratulations also go to the following students, all of whom gained at least three A*/A grades: Rachel Beattie, Oscar Bode-Hey, Atticus Burnett, Adam Case, Sally Dodd, Isabelle Elliott, Charlie Evans, Tom Fowler, Arianna Good, Anya Grieve, Anna Hodgkinson, Niamh Johnson, Holly Matthews, Emily McConville, Nicole Nevitt, Eloise Newhouse, Lottie Price, Amélie Proctor, Lauren Slater, Saranne Wright and Olivia Wood. A special mention also for Charley Benson, who scored a perfect triple-starred distinction in his BTEC Sport Extended Diploma.
