A WARRINGTON businesswoman believes she has the answer to what everyone’s been missing over the last year. Learn a language!
She’s so convinced that she’s given up her job in tourism to open “Speak Like A Native” language clubs across the North West.
Deborah Lagar jumped at the chance of becoming the first UK franchisee of Speak Like A Native because “people of all ages have been dreaming of socialising, travel and meeting new people and languages open doors and opportunities.”
She points to the increase in uptake for language apps as proof that the appetite is there and then adds, “apps are great but they’re also a reclusive way of learning… clicking and scrolling and occasionally speaking into the phone.
“Language learning is about communication and it needs real people in real-time in a real place. That’s why I’m bringing it to Cheshire.”
And for those who have bad memories of language classes at school, Deborah explains that the Speak Like A Native method is “more lingo than linguistics” and that achievable goals soon have children playing Twister in French and adults ordering tapas in Spanish.
Having seen first-hand the advantages that people with languages on their CVs have over others, Lagar is keen to get Speak Like A Native out to Cheshire residents of all ages.
“Some need it for work, others are desperate to get back to holidays and then there are the children, who may have missed out on a year of language learning and will have lost momentum.
“Language learning doesn’t need to be stuffy or scary and the way Speak Like A Native teaches Spanish, French and Mandarin means every session is fun and after the past 12 months, I think we all need a little of that in our lives again.
Deborah will be talking to nurseries, schools, cafes, workplaces, offices and community centres about hosting programmes
“It’s a model that’s been tried and tested in London over the last four years and it’s so exciting that Cheshire is the next destination,” she says.
Her call to those who want to learn, those who want to teach and those who want to host courses is clear. Get in touch! www.speaklikeanative.com/Cheshire
