Town Hall bosses told: “Let’s tackle road congestion”

1

TOWN Hall bosses are to be asked to take steps to tackle road congestion in Warrington “openly and transparently” with a view to publishing a long term solution to the problem.
The request comes from two South Warrington councillors, Brian Axcell and Peter Walker, in a motion to be put to the borough council tonight.
Cllr Axcell, who is moving the motion, said: “The business community has identified road congestion as a major impediment to the Brian Axcell new.jpgeconomic well-being of Warrington.
“Levels of congestion in Warrington have an adverse effect on public health, air quality, emissions, noise nuisance and wasted time.
“The council has invested in traffic modelling software and individual road schemes are being designed to deal with individual areas of congestion.
“But there is no single point on the Warrington Borough Council web site where residents and businesses can check current levels of congestion, receive advice on alternative routes or modes of transport or be informed about road closures.
“They cannot read about all current plans to mitigate congestion or see a comprehensive long term plan for reducing congestion across Warrington as a whole.
“We request that the executive board gives instructions to ensure that Warrington’s congestion problem, and steps to mitigate it, are openly and transparently shared with the general public and potential investors and that a long term plan for reducing congestion across the town is published and progress on the plan is monitored and made public.”

  1. Have they not heard of Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze etc.?, where you can check current levels of congestion, receive advice on alternative routes and be informed about road closures for free.

I also wonder if the council tried any free traffic simulation software, before spending money – Matsim, SUMO – Simulation of Urban MObility.

Another problem is it takes them far too long to complete road projects.
