WARRINGTON School Sport Partnership today staged a Secondary Festival of sport at Great Sankey High School and Leisure Centre to celebrate the milestone date of 100 days to go to the opening of the London Olympic Games.
The event saw 350 pupils taking part in 12 different Olympic sporting activities, including athletics, handball, hockey, volleyball, fencing, rowing, cycling and gymnastics.
Paula Pearson, School Sport Manager for the Warrington Schools Sport Partnership said: “This is a fantastic chance for the children to experience new sports, compete in a friendly environment and start the count down to an amazing summer of sport in Warrington.”
The event was supported by 30 Young Leaders from the high schools. In particular a core group of students from Great Sankey High School took a major part in organising the event’s opening ceremony.
During this they welcomed the participating schools and reminded them of the Olympic Truce, the pact of values which has existed since the times of Ancient Greece and which has made it possible for opposing nations to compete in a spirit of peace and sportsmanship.
The event was supported by sports clubs and coaches from across Warrington who have gave time to promote their sport to the students, and by Warrington Borough Council.
