Wire complete hat-trick of away day wins

WARRINGTON Town’s terrific end of season form continued with another away day victory as they overcame Farsley 3-0 at Throstle’s Nest.
Farlsey followed in the footsteps of Harrogate Railway and Ossett Albion and became the third Yorkshire side to fall foul of an impressive third successive away performance from Warrington.
Second half goals from “super sub” Ash Ruane (pictured right) and a brace from ace marksman Ciaran Kilheeney saw the Yellows run out 3-0 winners while also keeping a second successive clean sheet.
Despite neither side having much to play for in what was this season’s penultimate fixture, the encounter started very quickly and it was Farsley who came the closest to breaking the deadlock early on.
Some good link play from Adam Priestley and Rob O’Brien on the flank put Warrington on the back foot before O’Brien neatly slid in striker Gareth Grant who forced an excellent stop from Christian Dibble in the Warrington goal. Grant should have put the hosts ahead after just eight minutes and 20 minutes later, he tested the Warrington shot stopper again; his drive from the edge of the box straight down the throat of Dibble.
Warrington grew in confidence as the game wore on and had chances of their own as the game raced toward the interval. David Mannix drilled his effort wide while Andy Fowler and Liam Dawson both saw their strikes rise over the bar without testing Farsley goalkeeper, Ben Higginson.
After a goalless first period, both sides burst out the blocks at the start of the second. Chris Walton struck over for the hosts with five minutes gone while Kilheeney headed Jon Newby’s cross narrowly wide three minutes after.
Manager Shaun Reid introduced fresh faces and the double change on the hour mark paid dividends. Jack West’s tenacity in the middle of the park drove Farsley back while just over ten minutes after coming on, Ash Ruane put Warrington in front.
From a throw in on the right flank, Ruane tidily controlled Mannix’s cross before spinning and volleying past Higginson, with the aid of a slight deflection giving the keeper no chance.
Just two minutes later, Farsley could have hauled themselves level but the Yellows had Dibble to thank for keeping Sam Robinson at bay. Ruane almost added his second, but he ballooned his volley over the top after capitalizing on a poor header from Mark Jackson.
Sure enough, two minutes later, Warrington had their second. Ruane’s clever through ball evaded the Farsley defence and played in Kilheeney who found himself in acres of space. After toying with Higginson on the edge of the six yard, he picked his spot and poked into the corner, much to the relief of the travelling Town fans, who were now in full voice behind the goal.
The win was practically sealed when Farsley saw captain, O’Brien dismissed for hauling down Chris Bandell while the youngster was through on goal. Kilheeney thought he had added his second with five minutes to go but he was denied by the lineman’s flag.
With moments to go, he did complete his brace and put the icing on the cake for the visitors. Bandell’s classy through ball allowed Kilheeney to take one touch around Higginson, before tapping in.
Warrington: Dibble, Coulter, Doran, Dogan (C), McCarten, Mooney (West 61), Newby (Bandell 81), Mannix, Kilheeney, Dawson, Fowler (Ruane 61).
Unused subs: Glass, Bibby.
