PLANNING chiefs have refused a retrospective application for permission to change the use of land at a house at Beech Farm, Heath Lane, Croft.
The proposal also involved the retention of a boundary fence, gates, hardstanding, covered area and storage container.
Borough council planners ruled the proposal was inappropriate development harmful to the Green Belt and to openness of the area.
A neighbour had complained about the impact of the fence on the amenity of the nearest neighbours and the storage of lorries. They claimed the area was being used as a transport hub but said they would not object if the site was improved.
Croft Parish Council had questioned what the proposed use of the land was and asked if it implied development in the Green Belt.
Planners decided the proposal would not improve the economic, social and environmental conditions of the area and did not comprise sustainable development. They said there were no amendments to the scheme, or conditions that could reasonably have been imposed, which could have made the development acceptable
