AFTER a busy February schedule Warrington Rylands began March at home to Gainsborough Trinity but could only manage a 1-1 draw in The Hive Arena.
Rylands, trying to avenge their 3-1 loss at The Kal Group Stadium just over two weeks ago, began on the front foot when Ben Hardcastle powered a shot past Dylan Wharton and into the back of the net after just four minutes.
However, Trinity were soon back on level terms when a low shot to the near post was diverted past Luke Pilling by a Rylands defender.
Neil Reynolds fielded a different side to previous games as the Blues injury list lengthens. Missing key frontman, George Waring, tactics were changed but when Alex Kiwomya limped off, it was necessary to change again.
Two good sides went toe toe-to-toe in the pleasant sunshine, both creating many chances. Keeper Luke Pilling was on form, making several amazing saves, but the second half clearly belonged to the home side.
New guys Dontai Gabidon and Callum Gribben came off the bench to add to the forward pressure while Scott Holding strengthened the defence.
Gainsborough were on the back foot for some time; every clearance found a Rylands player who recycled the ball for yet another attack but the victorious goal was elusive.
Although Warrington were disappointed with the result a draw keeps them in seventh place in the league, a position they could only have dreamt of six months ago.
Warrington Rylands next match is in two weeks when they make the long trip to Blyth Spartans. Hopefully this will give the squad a rest and time for the injuries to get better. The Hive Arena will be hosting the Semi Final of the U17 County Cup with Rylands facing Marina Sands JFC.
