Rylands defeated after going toe-to-toe with champions elect

DESPITE scoring first Warrington Rylands went down 1–3 to top-of-the-league Macclesfield in what manager Robbie Savage described as “their best win of the season.”

Full of praise for Neil Reynolds he reiterated how Reno is the best manager of this league and went on to say how The Blues “caused them a lot of problems” and “could have scored two or three in the first half.”
The defeat ended a run of 12 games without defeat for Rylands.

Alex Kiwomya had a shot saved by Max Dearnley in goal for The Silkmen and Jake Burton shot over the bar, but on eleven minutes George Waring made contact with a perfect cross to open the scoring for the home side and take his fourth goal of the month.
The Champions-elect, who now sit 22 points ahead of Guiseley in second place, took only four minutes to find the equaliser as Danny Elliott beat Luke Pilling from the penalty spot.

At half-time Robbie Savage “would have taken a point”, but Rylands played so well they made Macclesfield change shape and it took them just three minutes after the restart for Tre Pemberton to beat Pilling and take the lead.
The home side continued to push forward but a long clearance found the Ryland’s defence out of position and D’Mani Mellor, under pressure from Captain James Neild, produced a shot that bounced awkwardly in front of Pilling and gave the travelling side a two-goal cushion.
Warrington didn’t give up though, but playing so many games in one month was always going to be taxing and it was clear they were feeling it as the game progressed.
Neil Reynolds was proud of his boys “going toe-to-toe with an extremely talented squad, particularly in the first half. It doesn’t feel nice to lose” he said “but we’ve got to lick our wounds and prepare for our next match.”

In the post-match interview he paid particular praise to Chairman Mark Pye and the Directors for the hard work they put in behind the scenes and a special mention to all the volunteers and the fans. Collectively they are making this a club to be proud of.
This was not the birthday present Reynolds would have liked but a bottle of wine from Savage may be some sort of consolation.
This coming Tuesday evening, 18th February, Warrington Rylands will face Leek Town in a re-arranged fixture at The Hive Arena. Leek will be hoping to bounce back with a win after losing to Whitby at Harrison Park.
