Opposition to residential property on Green Belt land

A PLAN to convert an existing garage into a residential property on Green Belt land at Burtonwood has attracted major opposition.

Deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, Cllr Cathy Mitchell and six nearby residents have lodged objections.
But council officers are recommending the scheme at Boarded Barn Farm, Fir Tree Lane, Burtonwood should be approved.

Objectors claim the scheme would result in a loss of privacy because the garage is too close to other residential properties at the farm and because of highway safety issues because the development would be on part of an existing turning head.
The impact of proposed fencing on the openness of the Green Belt is also raised.
But planning officers say the scheme would result in one additional residential unit in an established residential site and would have no unacceptable impact on visual or residential amenity or the local highway network.
The wider site is already in residential use, with four residential units in a converted former farm building.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee will consider the proposals.
