THE Independent candidate for the forthcoming Latchford West by-election later this month Amanda Bowles has pledged to actively campaign for what’s important to local residents if she is elected.

Commenting n her campaign so far Amanda said: ” I’ve been out and about listening to people, and so far in the campaign one thing is evident, I’m hearing from people that they are fed up with the main parties – both nationally and locally.

“I don’t think local councillors need to be tied to a political party – I think they should serve the ward they are elected by. They should listen to the local residents, fix local problems, and work with people to improve the community – not be driven by a party political agenda.

“I’m hearing that people want to be listened to, they want access to better community facilities, and they want safe clean streets and parks. In particular, the facilities on Victoria Park should be open to community groups and teams, and park users and local residents would welcome a café. The Council don’t seem to want to listen to people, they’re not listening to people’s concerns. They raised our council tax to the max when families are already struggling with the cost of living. Council debt is enormous also, and that’s really worrying.”

She says the most mentioned areas of local concern for residents are:
•Lack of investment in Local Facilities.
•Housing and the pressure on local services and roads
•LTN/Central6 Scheme and the impact on business and the community
•Gainsborough/Chester Road Junction

She says the concerns were not prompted by a survey – people are just talking about these things.
“If elected as Councillor for Latchford West I pledge to actively campaign for what’s important to residents. I am not party political and will be a voice for the people of Latchford West<" she added. The by-election on April 20 was called following the death of community champion, former Mayor of Warrington and Labour Councillor Les Morgan who sadly passed away in January.
