Snow and flooding – Warrington’s weather in 1967

0

EXTREME weather patterns are nothing new as these old photographs taken in 1967  by local photographer Eddie Whitham show.

Heavy snow covered vehicles in the town centre, almost bringing traffic to a standstill during the winter months.

While later in the year a combination of the thaw and heavy rain brought flooding to a caravan park which used to be situated just off Orford Road.

Eddie has been taking photographs around Warrington for more than sixty years, working on local, regional and national newspapers. He finished his career as the official photographer at the old US Army Burtonwood airbase. His speciality subject is Rugby League, taking literally thousands of photographs at Warrington Wolves.

Warrington-Worldwide has teamed up with Eddie to share his photographic collection online to help record the history of our town in pictures.

Meanwhile if you have any old history photographs of Warrington to share please send them to [email protected] and we will try our best to include them in our local history archive as we help provide a lasting picture archive of our town.
