Modern Day Bad Habits – It’s Not What You Might Think

1

As a millennial, you probably don’t drink much alcohol or smoke (statistics gathered by https://thesispanda.com/dissertation-writing-service). Chances are, you also go light on fast food and might even exercise from time to time. In short, you care about your lifestyle and try to give up on any bad habit you have.

A well-known bad habit, that is. Back in the fifties, everybody was smoking (as we saw clearly on Mad Men). That’s why smoking was the primary problem to tackle and governments spent a lot of effort and money to educate and raise awareness of the dangers.

But right when old bad habits fade, new ones appear. The danger is, you might not even understand that you indulge in a bad habit and that it influences your life and health. What are such bad habits that sneaked into our lives unnoticed, hidden behind liquor bottles and stubs?

Thinking anxiously about the future

Yes, baby boomers did create some unpleasant heritage, but the world we live in is not as bad as you might think. Remember the last time that you were lying in your bed and couldn’t sleep, thinking of all the things that could go wrong? Do something about it. This kind of anxiety won’t just go away. The world is getting faster and more competitive, which increases the stress. But this trend is not going away any time soon. If you are anxiety-prone by nature, you could drive yourself insane. Hence the existential crisis and all the “pleasant” consequences. Go see a psychiatrist if necessary – they will be able to estimate what kind of treatment you need to stop such harmful practices.

Avoiding conflict

Don’t get it wrong. If you are able to smile right in the face of a person that has just yelled at you, turn around and forget about them that very second – you are doing extremely well. Skip this paragraph. But if you are like the rest of us and don’t like when people are being rude to you, don’t try to suppress your feelings and be the intelligent one in this fight. Anger builds up inside you. Today, we are taught that every opinion matters. That we have to accept and let go. Some are using it to step on other peoples’ feelings and rights. Don’t let it happen or you might blow up and shoot everyone around some day.

Living up to your internal standard

It’s good when you have goals and are ready to achieve them. It’s bad when you have an ideal image of yourself that is not compatible with life. At some point, the image and the reality will get so far from each other that it will shatter your world view and self-confidence in pieces.

See the trend? Exactly! These are mostly psychological bad habits. The appearance of such habits is probably natural given that the quality of life is going up every decade. The difficulty, however, is that you can’t just stop doing something, without rethinking a lot of concepts that shape your system of beliefs. The first step to fixing these habits will be to recognize them. Once you know you suffer from any of the above, you’ll go from there.

  1. It seems to me in the modern world, a person is constantly exposed to stress that promotes the appearance of harmful habits in her. Alcohol and tobacco are constant companions of our lives. A person, either under the influence of stress or under the influence of a company, becomes dependent on these components. Now I write my essays about the influence of alcohol on the body of adolescents. I think this work is very important because this question is always relevant.
