Businesses to be asked to help keep village litter-free

1

BUSINESSES at Stockton Heath are to be asked to keep the areas around their premises tidy, following complaints about litter in the village.
A member of the public attended a meeting of the parish council to complain about littering – particularly in the Sandy Lane area, East Avenue and London Road – with reference to business premises in the vicinity.
The state of drainage grids was also discussed.
Chairman Cllr Peter Walker agreed that more needed to be done.
Although the parish council had agreed extra resources, these still might not be enough.
He outlined the responsibility of the borough council and the work done by the parish council to support this work.
Cllr Sue Barlow described the work of the parish ranger and the work of volunteer litter pickers. She encouraged the use of the borough council online app for reporting problems direct to the borough.
Cllr Celia Jordan suggested the council should communicate with businesses encouraging them to keep their curtilages clean.
The issue of clearing grids will be pursued with the borough council.

  1. Businesses already try to keep the areas around their own business premises clean of litter and have done for a long time.
There are no businesses on Sandy Lane or Easy Avenue so are the Parish Council now asking all businesses to make their staff walk the streets much further away from their premises late at night or early hours of the morning to pick up any litter with their own logo name on it.
The problem is, well as I see it anyway, is that the council have allowed far to many bars and fast food type outlets to take route in the village and with late night drinking followed by hunger pangs of the needy well yes that will create litter problems. I don’t know what the solution is but idiots on nights out will always drop rubbish……maybe the council should ask litter enforcement officers to patrol the streets late at night and weekends and slap anyone seen dropping litter with an on the spot fine. Just think of the money they would make from fines too…..might be enough to have the Forge carpark potholes repaired again or better still to fund a complete resurface of it 😉
