“Community conversation” brings people together

MORE than 100 people from the Lymm, Thelwall and High Legh areas met for a “Community Conversation” arranged in conjunction with the ROC “Redeeming our Communities” organisation.
The meeting, at Lymm High School, was also attended by High Sherriff of Cheshire Kathy Cowell, Mayor of Warrington Faisal Rashid, borough council officers and members,  parish councillors, police, fire and health professionals.
Many community groups were also represented at the meeting.
The evening began by celebrating the 100-plus existing groups and activities, primarily run by local volunteers.
Time was then spent assessing the issues, needs and gaps in provision for various elements of the community, and finally, everybody turned their minds to potential solutions, which generated a wealth of creative and practical ideas, together with offers of support to enable them to happen.
The “Conversation” was of course just the start of the ROC initiative which aims to bring people of goodwill together to make safer, kinder communities.
Several projects have already commenced, including the collection of elderly people in a minibus for a weekly coffee morning in High Legh, and a dementia café and PCSO surgery, both at the Sanctuary Café in Lymm.
A team, including the police and local youth workers is also making plans to establish provision for young people who routinely congregate in and around the village or parks on Friday evenings.
The admin team at Lymm Baptist Church offered to support the ongoing initiative.
