AS part of its 40th-anniversary celebrations Thelwall & Grappenhall Golf Society is organising a special golf day event to help raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease research, inspired by former Rugby League player Rob Burrow.

The gold day event will take place at Warrington Golf Club on July 24th, hosted by former Sky Sports Rugby League commentator Eddie Hemmings and other special guests from the world of Rugby League, including former Warrington Wolves; player and coach Paul Cullen, whose brother-in-law and also former Wolves player and coach, Paul Darbyshire, sadly died from the disease.

Thelwall & Grappenhall Golf Society (TAGGS) was set up in South Warrington, in Cheshire, by 10-12 golfers who didn’t play at a local golf club. Now 40 years later they have some of the ‘Originals’ still playing golf on a monthly basis between February to October. The group has expanded to over 40 members.

As part of thier planned celebrations during 2024, they are raising money and awareness for a charity close to our hearts. As Warrington is a Rugby town, they have all been touched by recent reports of Rob Burrows and his battles with MND, but also acknowledging the fact that previous Warrington players too had been struck down by this crippling disease and unfortunately, passing away far too early.
Therefore, they are raising money in various ways, culminating in the TAGGS Charity Day at Warrington Golf Club on 24th July. The golf day has been generously sponsored already, but they are looking for other sponsors, like hole sponsorship and goody bag sponsorship etc… all details of our charity day can be found on www.taggsgolf.com

For those not able to take part in the event donations can be made online, with over £700 already raised towards a £10,000 target. Donations can be made via GoFoundMe by CLICKING HERE
