Thousands of tonnes of Illegal waste to be dumped in Warrington

THOUSANDS of tonnes of illegally dumped waste, which have caused a plague of flies in Liverpool, are to be moved to Warrington it was learned today.
The dumped waste – which was originally due to be shipped abroad – is to be sent to the Arpley landfill site.
Over the last week, residents of the Everton area of Liverpool, have been inundated with swarms of flies coming from land off Soho Street, where the waste was illegally dumped.
Now the flies have even invaded the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
A fleet of lorries will carry the waste to Arpley along the M62.  Some of the waste is also being taken to Chester.
A spokesman for Liverpool City Council said responsibility for moving the waste belonged with the site owners but the council had stepped in to start the operation because of the huge nuisance being caused to local residents and businesses.
An Everton resident telephoned Warrington-Worldwide to sound a warning the material was on its way.
He said: “Obviously we want the stuff moved but it doesn’t seem fair to us to just move it down the road to Warrington.  What has Warrington done to deserve this.”
Originally, the waste was due to be shipped abroad through Hull.  But port authorities refused to accept the material.
It is believed a criminal gang may have been involved in dumping it at Everton.
Residents have been inundated with swarms of flies. Shops, houses and schools have been affected.
Local shops have run out of supplies of fly-filler – and many people are complaining of health problems.
Residents of the Sankey Bridge area of Warrington have complained about the Arpley landfill site for years –in particular the heavy lorries which bring waste to the site.
The new emergency is likely to lead to a big increase in the number of lorries pounding local roads.
It is believed Warrington Borough Council was not informed of the decision to send the waste to Arpley.

    • Arpley has residents with schools and hospital just up the road. Why create more infections and public disruption bringing the waste to Warrington.

  1. Arpley is a huge site full of stinking household waste unloaded there all the time so I can’t see it making much difference if this lot goes there too. I presume at landfill sites they must spray it all to kill flies, maggots and eggs…or do they?

  2. I only wrote an article last week about concerns that WBC may not be able to protect wildlife habitat. Looks like it is and it sound bad next to Moore Nature Reserve is further evidence – what about the people from the Saxon Estate?

  3. Can’t it go for incineration / waste to energy? I thought as a matter of national policy, we were moving on from land-filling. The irony is of course is that Warrington no longer tips its waste at Arpley…and hasn’t done for sometime….but rather it recycles in a variety of ways.

  4. Incineration of waste has its own harmful to health attachments also Paul, so it is not necessarily the solution to our waste disposal problems.

  5. I dont think anything has happened only that the amount of flies during the last two months has increased far beyond normal. Warrington town councoil states this is normal, if so why are more and more people complaining about the numbers.
We are having to resort to numersous fly papers ansd sprays just to keep on top of the fly numbers. What is causing this.
