MINISTER of State for Nuclear Andrea Leadsom was today welcomed to Warrington’s University Technical College by local MP David Mowat.
Ms Leadsom and the Warrington South mp were then taken on a tour of the facility, currently under construction, alongside representatives from the UTC’s partner organisations, Sellafield Ltd, ISG and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Due to open in September, the UTC will eventually cater for 600 students and offer a variety of courses, specialising in Engineering and, in particular, preparing students to work in the Energy sector.
Mr Mowat and Ms Leadsom laid a stone on what will become the roof terrace to mark the occasion.
after the event, Mr Mowat said: “I’m delighted to see the University Technical College taking shape. The UK needs significant investment in its energy infrastructure over the next two decades so students in Warrington will be getting a head start into a growing industry.
“We’re giving children the skills they need to get into specialised, well-paying jobs so that they can get on in life.”
