Town's children in care are the tops

NEW figures have revealed children in care in Warrington have achieved the best GCSE results in England.
Figures confirm that 40 per cent of the youngsters achieved five A*-C grades, including English and maths, which is the highest result in the country.
And the borough council is ahead of the game when it comes to helping children in care achieve their goals through support from the range of professionals involved in their care and education.
This is co-ordinated by the head teacher of the Warrington virtual school for vulnerable pupils.
A virtual head holds overall responsibility for the education of children in care. They work collaboratively with schools, social workers and foster carers so that these children succeed in education and reach their potential.
Warrington introduced a Virtual School two years ago, which monitors and tracks the educational attainment of children in care, and other groups of young people who likely to not achieve as well as their peers, to ensure they receive the support they need to help them achieve their expected grades.
Since it started, there have been significant improvements in children’s education achievements.
Cllr Colin Froggatt (pictured), the council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and is well deserved. The young people work very hard and also get great support from schools, foster carers, residential staff, social workers and the Virtual School.”
