POLICE investigating reports of an attempted abduction of a 14-year-old schoolgirl at Culcheth, Warrington, on Wednesday, have today confirmed the report was unfounded.
Following an investigation into a report of an attempted abduction in Shaw Street, Warrington on Wednesday 26 March it has been established that the report was unfounded.
DI Dave Schofield said: “While the report was made to police with good intent, we checked CCTV in the area and made extensive enquiries which confirmed no criminal offences had taken place. We are engaged with the local schools and confident there is no reason to be concerned following the initial report.”
On Wednesday it had been reported a 14-year-old girl was walking to Culcheth High School when a man attempted to pull her into a van.
Parents were alerted about the abduction attempt locally by the headteacher at Newchurch Primary School who issued a statement saying the school had been alerted to an attempted abduction of a child who attends Culcheth High School who was on their way to school when a man attempted to pull them into a van.
The school had corresponded with parents earlier in the year regarding a similar event. The letter went on to warn children to be extra vigilant when walking to school.
