A FAN who went into labour while queuing for free tickets to see celebrity “Dad of the Year” Peter Andre has met her idol during the Warrington Christmas lights switch-on at Golden Square Shopping Centre.
Despite being two days overdue, Lauren Pringle, from Warrington, was so keen to get her hands on the tickets to see the star that she drove to the centre at 6am while she was having contractions.
Before she could make it to the queue, her waters broke and partner Sean Hand had to drive her to the nearest hospital where she gave birth to her daughter Lilly Hand just hours later.
Lauren said: “When I heard that people had been camping out since 4am I just knew I had to get in the car and join that queue. The contractions weren’t that bad so I kept sitting it out, but after my waters broke I knew that I had to get to the hospital fast.”
More than 2,500 tickets given out in just two hours and the 18-year-old new mum was devastated to miss out on the chance of seeing one of her favourite artists perform in her hometown.
Then came the surprise call from the Golden Square team not only offering her tickets but also the chance to meet Peter Andre in person.
Lauren, who is now a full time mum, brought newest and youngest fan Lilly to meet the star, and was blown away by the experience of meeting him.
“Peter was so amazing – he’s such a good dad that I knew he’d be great with Lilly and I think she was a bit star-struck with him. She’s definitely a new fan!”
Peter, who brought son Junior to the event, is due to fly out to Australia next week to film a guest slot on “I’m Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here”.
He told Lauren that he too is hoping for a family Christmas with his three children, Harvey, Princess and Junior.
“At this stage I’m hoping to have all three kids with me at Christmas,” he said. “We’ll definitely make it a big one with a turkey in one oven and roast lamb in the other!”
